When Mr. Ernest Escaler started Gourmet’s Coffee in the early 80’s, it was a selection of the best coffee that was available in the Philippines – Arabica beans from Benguet, Bukidnon and other parts of Mindanao, Liberica beans or Barako from Batangas, Robusta beans from Cavite, Mindoro, Mindanao and Palawan. He was convinced that the secret to good coffee is in the grading, sorting and roasting process. Gourmet’s Coffee is roasted in the state of the art roasting machines.
We started commercial coffee roasting in 1985. Thirty-five (35) metric tons went through our warehouse for export. The best 0.5% of the finest beans were retained for roasting. Gourmet Coffee was born. Up until then, Filipinos were drinking mostly instant coffee. We now have the capacity to roast 120 tons every month. We have seven (7) coffee blends out in the market today.
